The Ministry of Human Resource Development has launched a centrally sponsored National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme in 2008-09 for providing scholarships @ ` 6000 per year to 1 lakh new students from class IX onwards which is continued upto class XII subject to fulfillment of certain conditions. As per the scheme those students studying as regular students in class VIII in Government, local body and Government-aided schools and whose parental income from all sources is upto ` 1.5 lakh per annum are entitled to appear in the selection test under the scheme. The amount of scholarship is deposited directly into the accounts of selected students on quarterly basis by the State Bank of India. There is no proposal at present to increase the scholarship amount.
